PIHA Semipro Eastern Confernce Playoff Picture

by Philip Russo

The Semipro playoff picture is coming into focus in the Eastern  Conference.  With just six games to go in the season all but three teams  are locked into playoff position.  The late season excitement sits at  the top of the standings where the top three teams are still battling  for final seeding.  Currently the Downingtown Cobras sit in first place  with a record of 17-2-4-1 (56 pts) and are the only of the three teams  to have completed their regular season.  Chasing down the first place  position is the Hershey Typhoon and Scottdale Inferno.   Hershey is the  second seed at the moment with 51 points and two games in hand, both  against local rivals the River Monsters.  Two regulation wins will give  the Typhoon one more point than the Cobras to slip into first place.   That is unless the current third seed, Scottdale Inferno don't surpass  both teams. The Inferno have four games remaining, all against their  local rival the Murraysville Shockwave.  If the Inferno can manage 8  points in the 4 games, then they can finish first.

Rounding out the playoff picture the East Coast Impact will finish fourth and have a tough first round playoff series with the 5th place  and defending champions the Suffolk Sting who they split during the season 2W - 2L.  Finishing in 6th place will  be the Harrisburg River Monsters, in 7th the Murraysville Shockwave, and  in the 8th and final playoff spot the North Jersey Grizzlies.

All playoff games will be played on Saturday, January 20th at 422  Sportsplex in Pottstown, PA.  The top two teams will advance to the KIHA Cup Playoffs along with a 3rd team decided by a semifinal consolation  one game play in.
